This course is for any Healthcare Provider that falls within their scope of practice ie: RN. LPN etc... This course is not for the general public. CPR123 is not liable for any misconduct or non-compliance with your place of employment.
Instruction in insertion of traditional over the needle cannula peripheral aka "short" intravenous catheters. Instruction includes the insertion procedure, techniques for proper and successful catheter insertions, care, assessment, and maintenance post catheter insertion. Didactic practice will be done on a manikin arm.

- INS standards; AVA, CDC, JCHAO guidelines and recommendations
- Legal issues
- Clinician, patient, and supply preparation
- Vein site, and catheter selection
- Vein assessment practicum on partners
- Venipuncture techniques
- Catheter site care and catheter securement
- Complication prevention and management
- Common problems and tips for success in patients with difficult access
After the Class; What's next?
The focus of the program is to provide a framework for healthcare providers to demonstrate knowledge and independence in the performance of IV catheter insertion procedures. It incorporates standards, guidelines, and recommendations from the leading IV-related organizations that set the standards of IV care in the U.S. Individuals may need to be competency tested via their institution upon completion of the course.

Note: Others, or non Nursing professionals may take this program if initiating, managing, and discontinuing IVs if it is within the scope of practice; however, your license/certification must delineate that IV therapy is within your scope of practice. Each state has its laws, rules, scope of practice, and regulations; therefore, it is your responsibility to check with your state board if this IV course conforms to the laws, regulations, and scope of practice for your credential in your state. This course does NOT offer live stick competency test upon completion. Those who needs live stick competency testing will do so via their institution.
